To redraw the energy landscape, one must dare to color outside the lines. We did not found iLumen to follow the crowd. Not to dwell on what exists, but to build what is possible. Our story begins with sunshine and a healthy dose of courage. And it is far from over.

Solar energy is deeply rooted in our DNA

It began in 2006 with a team of engineering students at KU Leuven. Led by founder Ismaël Ben-Al-Lal, they built a solar racing car that drove more than 3,000 kilometers through Australia during the World Solar Challenge. They finished second, but for Ismaël, that was only the beginning. What seemed like an adventure then became a mission in 2012. iLumen was born with one clear goal: to extract everything possible from renewable energy.

Not here to fit in, here to shine out

From the first PIDbox to our current ecosystem of batteries, charging solutions, control systems, and energy management. iLumen develops future-proof technology. Our solutions are compatible with every brand and every system, growing alongside your consumption and future plans. We do not create products that simply go with the flow. We develop technology that makes our customers more independent from price fluctuations, changing legislation, and the grid. Technology that anchors energy into their lives.

Outshining milestones

2006

Silver at the World Solar Challenge

As a student, founder Ismaël Ben-Al-Lal drives 3,000 kilometers through the Australian outback in a self-built solar car. The Group T team takes silver. The first spark of iLumen is ignited.

2012

Founding of iLumen

iLumen sees the light. With one mission: to make solar energy smarter, more efficient, and more profitable.

2014

First product: PIDbox

We solve the efficiency loss of solar panels with our own patented technology. The PIDbox is rolled out internationally and is currently sold in 42 countries.

2017

Start of iLusmart development

Energy management can be smarter. We start building our own EMS platform. The first stone of a connected ecosystem.

2018

First modular battery on the market

With iLubat, the predecessor to the current LiFePack, we release a stackable battery that is ready for the future.

2026

Launch of iLumen Netherlands

We expand to the Netherlands. With technology that makes companies more independent from the grid and prepares them for the new energy era.
